Rosana Paulino emerged in the Brazilian cultural scene in the mid-1990s, with a production focused on social, ethnic and gender issues. Her main subject is black women’s position in Brazilian society, and the various types of violence suffered by black people due to racism and the marks of slavery. The exhibition at the Pinacoteca is the first institutional exhibition of Paulino, who has participated in numerous collective shows in Brazil and abroad.
