Yutie Lee: What is it that makes Germany for art so different, so appealing? – non-proof-read

1 What comes to mind when reading „Germany as a site and a space for art?“ How do you experience working here? Are there any benefits or drawbacks, or other peculiarities?

‘With Centuries of practice, Germany has come quite close to perfecting its tourism infrastructure. Backpackers, families and jet setters will all find their needs and expectations met. Room and travel reservations are a good idea during peak season, but otherwise you can keep your advance planning to a minimum.’

(Germany, Lonely Planet, 2007, 5th Edition, p. 15)

2 Which factors are important when developing works, from both the intellectual and the operational point of view? Examples?

‘To treat reality as task and invention.’
(Robert Musil, The Man Without Qualities)

3 How important are educational systems, discursive platforms or spaces and/or institutions in your own professional career?

Notice me
Take my hand
Why are we
Strangers when
Our love is strong
Why carry on without me?
Everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby
And everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, it's haunting me
I guess I need you baby

(Britney Spears, ‘Everytime’)

4 To which extent have the conditions and mechanisms of production changed over the last years and how have any recent changes influenced or changed your practice?

Everything is about to disappear. You've got to hurry up if you still want to see things. (Paul Cézanne)
