Kunst-Insel am Lenbachplatz
Opening the 11th of May
Die Kunstinsel am Lenbachplatz (Billboard) is a five-by-five-meter square advertising billboard erected in 2013, which has since displayed a wide variety of work by numerous artists. The first work presented was an Ed Ruscha piece featuring a mountain panorama with the words “Pay nothing until April” as part of the series A Space Called Public / Hoffentlich Öffentlich, curated by Elmgreen & Dragset. Ruscha’s successors have included Munich-based artists such as Martin Fengel, Susi Gelb, and Stefanie Ullmann. In 2018, the Kunstinsel will be taken over by Alexander Kluge in conjunction with PAM.
